How Evolution REALLY Works, Part II

Video Description:
Natural Selection prevents deleterious mutations from spreading throughout a population while fostering the spread of beneficial mutations.
One can get populations to do many things with this simulator. Just remember, if your parameters are not realistic, your solution will not represent reality. To download the Population Simulator go to: http://www.mediafire.com/?z2p2ydew1id To download this video go to: http://www.mediafire.com/
?zqmzezllkyv If you wish to translate this video you can download the PowerPoint file from: http://www.mediafire.com/?yexml12mkgi Predator evolution is simulated by scaling the populations mean survival probability back to the attrition rate. Example. If the Attrition rate is 0.9 and every member
of the population has a number of beneficial mutations then the mean probability of death may be 0.8. If the predators were allowed to evolve (as they would in nature) that would scale the mean death probability back to 0.9. This is known as the Red Queen Hypothesis. The organisms have to keep e
volving just to stand still. Without predator evolution enough beneficial mutations can pile up to lower the death probability to 0 (or nearly so). This would stop selection as every member would live to mate. Error: I stated that without selection, evolution stops. This is not entirely true. G
enetic drift operates in the absence of selection. It is one mechanism by which neutral mutations can become fixed in a populations. Think about it.

I'm assuming you're a self-proclaimed Christian. So am I. I find your youtube name and behaviour here despicable. And i'm sure Jesus does too. I'm serious. You know that most of the time when Jesus spoke of hell, he was speaking to the RELIGIOUS LEADERS? - those who thought they were right next to God - those who had pride, acted haughtily, and thought themselves as superior to others? I'm not trying to be condescending, but boy, you really ought to reconsider your "evangelism" methods.
Fags, your argument ... ( 2 months ago by Evilqueen1985)
Fags, your argument is deeply flawed. Let us, for a moment, assume that homosexuality is indeed a genetic characteristic. The continual appearance of the gene in each generation can be easily attributed to its may being a recessive gene. In that case both parents would need the gene for it to pass to the child. A good many people carry the recessive gene for red hair or hemophilia, but that makes them neither red headed nor hemophiliacs. The same can be said for the "gay gene"
If you were to, god ... ( 2 months ago by Evilqueen1985)
If you were to, god forbid, have children and you happen to carry the aforementioned gay gene and so did your partner, then you would have a 1 in 4 chance of having a gay child, or there abouts, depending on the exact nature of the gene. As you can plainly see, your attempts to disprove two perfectly logical ideas based on your own narrow mindedness is easily thwarted by the most basic of 7th grade Mendelian genetics. Have a lovely day.

People are gay because they want to no matter what excuse you make up! Your most probally a lesbian or you a fag hag?
« People are gay ... ( 2 months ago by XGralgrathor)
« People are gay because they want to » That implies people are also heterosexual because they want to, because they choose to. Are you saying that at some point in your life, Abominations, you actually sat down and had a good hard think about whether you preferred one or the other? That would o
f course explain your behavior.
Firstly, if you are ... ( 2 months ago by Evilqueen1985)
Firstly, if you are going to argue, at least be grammatical: you're not your. Secondly I am neither a lesbian nor a fag hag. I am a gay man, but that is neither here nor there, as we were discussing whether or not there was the plausibility that homosexuality could be a genetic chara. nor if it was or not. Its good to see the Right hasn't lost its trademark argument of "its wrong because I say its wrong."

Gee bitch because I owe you an o there it is have another o! The excuse of being a fag is genetic is only a small amount. Tho this idea its genetic does not mean you have to be gay, you know its wrong!
Its crap anyway thats why its rare for all siblings to be gay, this would be the result if it was genetic!
Well, since you ... ( 2 months ago by Evilqueen1985)
Well, since you insist on making this personal, you narrow minded hatemonger, I shall endeavor to dumb down my argument so one with your obviously limited intelligence can grasp it. All siblings would not be gay if it were genetic, just as all siblings in one family do not always have the same hair or eye color. Draw yourself a Punnet Square and figure it out. Also who I sleep with has no affect on you in any way. Any more than your ignorant bible touting has an affect on me.

Life is created by God, hence it can live FOREVER, because it was created to live FOREVER. DUH...

Gay people are gay because they want to be... and they want to be gay because their genes/early-upbringing/foetal hormones make them attracted to members of their same sex. How the heck creationists mannage to turn a video about EVOLUTION into an excuse to unleash their unbridaled homophobia...
Your saying these people can THINK? What's wrong with you XDXDXD

I heard that the 'gay gene' (I hate using that simplified term) was passed on from mothers (in whom it increases fertility) to their sons (who it makes gay).
Though the recesive gene theory is more plausable now i think about it. There's just so many ways homosexuality, altruism, the bacterial flagelum- anything said to be unevolvable could come to be through evolutionry processes.

She probably has a 1/2 chance of passing on the Gay gene... because she's probably a closet lesbian. If she mannaged to relate homosexuality to this video the topic must be pretty high up on her agenda. She even puts it in her name XD
Rare it may be for ... ( 1 month ago by SuperiorSavior)
Rare it may be for siblings to be gay (though it's more common than non-siblings) but it isn't that rare at all in identical twins. No one's saying homosexuality is entirly genetic; foetal hormones in the mother and the child's early upbringing also have a role. But neither is chosen and neither is reversable.
The main issue here however, isn't weather it's chosen; it's why the hell it's wrong, or at least, more wrong than any sex. Havn't you read the church father's torrades against sex?
The most moral ... ( 1 month ago by SuperiorSavior)
The most moral message I've read from a christian in a long time, very true. Jesus condemned the pharases, the teachers of the law, because they lacked love and judged others instead of looking at their own sins. Perhaps fundamentalists will judge others but (if there is a god) those that claim to know God's will and to speak His words are likely to be the first to burn.

Some poof on here was stating being a poof was genetic if thats the case, then evolution is proven wrong. He cant pretend both are true!
I'm just unsure why ... ( 1 month ago by SuperiorSavior)
I'm just unsure why you brought up such a contraversial issue, when you might as well have said "genetic infertility can't exist if evolution exists" because no-one doubts that infertility is genetic (I hope). It can be genetic because of recessive genes (Which are more complicated than the old "2 parents with recesive genes = one child with the undesirable trait" dogma but it's a start), if it doesn't prevent reproduction of genetically simmilar creatures, or because of gene expression.
If homosexuality IS ... ( 1 month ago by SuperiorSavior)
If homosexuality IS a choice, your the one who doesn't really have a leg to stand on with your anti-evolution argument. Which is why I'm wondering why you didn't choose something unambiguously genetic. You loose either way, either by removing your 'proof' against evilution (by showing gays choose to be 'abominations') or you accept that gays can't help but be gay (in which case you might as well blame someone with a low IQ for not getting into Harvard, or an incontinent for wetting themself).

I request information. In this video, cdk makes a comment at about the 9:14 mark "Now are there situations where the population will decay?... very low population sizes." and a picture of a Cheetah is tagged on there. If he implying anything about buildup of deleterious mutations? Or simply referring to the results of the cheetah population bottle neck and it's effects on their genetics?

My guess is that he is referring to a case where the combination of low population and low beneficial mutation probability will mean that many generations go by without any beneficial mutations showing up anywhere in the whole population. In his simulations, the increases in population were mainly in family trees that included new beneficial mutations.
In this segment he ... ( 2 weeks ago by aasenatrix)
In this segment he is referring to the lack of genetic variation in a small population. Because cheetah populations are small, there is less genetic variation; that is to say more of the animals share genes identical by decent. The result is low adaptive ability within the population. If a new environmental, or even mutational condition arises, it is less likely that the population will contain the variation it needs within the gene pool to make the necessary adaptations.
