Boo had his Furry Friends pet assisted therapy class, and he passed all tests with flying colors. We'll soon be visiting a hospital, juvenile hall, and abuse shelter.
At first he was the only cat there. There were about 15 dogs there. He's ok with small dogs, he does feel threatened by big dogs and sometimes growls. Boo's fine as long as the dogs don't come in to his face. About a foot away is fine with him. He just can't be panicking about dogs around. He can'
t panic if one gets in his face. He did hiss and swat when a dog did get in his face, and he growls sitting on my lap afterwards, but he doesn't panic. At first Boo sat on my lap barely moving. Then as he felt comfortable I wasn't going to make him do anything, and the dogs weren't coming up, he st
retched out a paw toward the nearby dog, testing the water. Hmmm...nothing happened. So he stepped out of his blanket, and down my outstretched legs to roam a little. So he passed not only "on leash" test but "off leash test". Off leash test means the dogs are off leash playing with toys, while all
cats are on leash. So Boo can go to on and off leash visits. There can be other animals on the team. A llama, guinea pigs, goat, pig, mice, birds, as long as the pets don't leap to attack, they can be on the same team.
