Today the European Union has the most environmentally-friendly arsenal of rules in the world and has done more to tackle pressing ecological problems, such as climate change, than any other major power. But it has not always been like this. Caring for the environment did not feature in the Treaty of Rome, the document that gave birth to the modern day EU. Yet environmental problems were never far away. Europe's love affair with the car was moving into top gear, industry was busy belching out pollutants and raw sewage was being pumped into our rivers and seas.

EEC subsidises fisheries at vast expense - no implementation of scientific quotas in Fishing practices, responsible for extirpation of fish in African waters through fishiing concessions, second only to Japan if not worse in abusing the worlds marine fisheries. Unaccountable to anyone, least of all the fish. Shame on your subsidies, bycatch and destruction of the bluefin tuna.

What do you think of a prohibition on commercial fishing, just take all our fish from that fish factories, don't know the english word for it, that you just put some in a bassin, make them multiplie and kill some, very productive

When consumers buy cars they get added to GDP. But cars wear out and must eventually be replaced. When consumers buy replacements they get added to GDP. But the cars that wore out never got subtracted from anywhere. Economists don't mention NDP much but only CAPITAL goods get depreciated. So that GDP as ECONOMIC GROWTH is actually nonsense. Economists can't do algebra. They don't mention the planned obsolescence of automobiles either. The laws of physics do not change year to year.
